ACCA New syllabus

Long time no blog here. Partly busy and on the other hand there are somethings which i am disappointed with in life. Nevertheless, i decided to move on...

Apparently, i got into ACCA courses at kaplan which is located behind centerpoint in somerset. Well, the syallabus has just gotten more interesting in some ways and allows us to learn more real life accounting and finance matters. U can achieve honours in uni of oxford after completing fundamentals papers which i am just getting started. Then, u need to submit a project findings and after which u can get a degree should u decide not to advance further through professional and advanced levels. Sounds easy ya? In fact, depending on how u study, the results will vary greatly. In fundamental level alone, which is considered degree standard, there are papers like corporate law, accounting, tax, financial management and even audit! Quite an interesting and relevant mix there which are quite useful when u work in society. Although an accountant appears to be the destined job, u can venture into financial sector too...

Right now, i am studying corporate law of singapore variation and also management accounting. The only thing is that law is quite boring as there is quite some memory work there but it is useful to know to protect own interests to defend ownself or sue people in court. Management accounting wise is now changed from structured qns to multiple choices. But obviously, u need to excel in this subject in order to do well in more professional accounting papers later on. No points jus passing but i am quite confident of doing well for this paper though. Ok, thats 2 paper i studying now with 2 other basic accounting papers being exempted. Well, hope that some of u can join me in ACCA soon or can ask me more about it. Ok, shall be back to blog again soon. Gotta sleep... bye...

Discover ur interest and go for it!

Further Studies?

Well, after NS, most guys would go for further studies, wouldn't they? I would have been in SMU now if i had been selected but unfortunately that does not happen. I have been exploring the uni courses in Kaplan lately, but that does not seems to spark any tinge of interest until i learnt that my fellow temp working friend is studying ACCA. Ok, i have heard it before, but just that no one really tell me what the course is really about. He himself shares with me what his experience in ACCA is like and it is not really just about accounting. Finance is also part of it. Well, he is finishing soon and he seems to cope well. He shares with me all relevant ACCA information and when i saw his booklet of lectures n tutorials on taxation, somehow somewhere it brought upon a rush of unimaginable adrenaline through my blood veins.

Meanwhile i also been to www.accaglobal.com and check for some extra details. Surprisingly, i wonder if some of my ex-BIT course mates even know if ACCA will be able to grant them 2 subjects for exemption instead of 1 which the current batch of BIT graduates will be able to get. This is quite a good deal considering that accounting students able to get 3 exemptions and that it appears that i have some accounting n finance interest within me. So with this, should i take up this challenge or not? With the exemptions, it will take me around 1.5yrs to complete if i study with utmost concentration. It is rather flexible too in timetable n exam planning. I shall make a decision soon as deadline for dec exams is pretty near. I can still work in other better paid temp job as i can choose between day n night lessons. So, shall i make this unique move or continue to look at other courses? Shall blog about my decision in due time, so meantime let me enjoy my 'internship' in SPH... hehe

Break loose from the norm and aim to surpass your limits to reach new heights!

Well... week 1 in SPH quite well...

Working in SPH is not that bad somehow in terms of accessibility to reach there. I only need $2.36 for two way trip to reach aljunied mrt to take company bus which is rather big to genting lane and then back to simei mrt after work. Anyway, i can even read the new paper at lunch time for free. lol. Anyway, here's the pros and cons to work there...

Pros+
1.Transport to company from aljunied or toa payoh mrt station provided.
2.My department itself has a lot of sub departments working together in same unit.
3.If u got comp, accessibility to internet is no prob including msn. For temp staff, no com as yet...
4.Colleagues helpful and friendly. This is most important as from wat i know alot of perm staffs hav work for quite long already.
5.Happy atmostphere in office all day long... eg.staffs in various sections get along with each other in same office unit easily.
6.Enjoy receiving small freebies from time to time...

Cons
1.Food variety not much but still satisfactory.
2.Office little noisy but their conversations quite interesting at times. oops...
3.Temp staffs work dun seems to be as interesting as other perm staffs'.

Ok, for now there seems to be alot of pros over cons for me so i should be rather contented already. Anyway, one of the temp staffs might be leaving. So any of my friends interested in replacing him cos he needs replacement badly but the person replacing him must be working for his remaining 2.75months though. Hard to find i guess as most are studying in these periods. Oh well... time for a rest...

A steely resolve is all u need to fend urselves from claws of evil.

1st working day at SPH

Travelling to the new work place is surprisingly easy. All thanks to it being near Aljunied MRT n there's even a shuttle bus to my workplace. It took only 30minutes, approx. 8mins walk to mrt, 15mins on mrt and 7mins on shuttle bus... Amazing as there's no road congestion along the way.

Well, i reckon people would have tot work in SPH cannot be any tougher. But I found out from my own eyes that behind ur daily feed of freshly printed newspaper/magazines, lots of manual planning goes behind it. Technology wise i reckon if is implemented full scale, can actually cut down substantial warehouse printing wastages but of course massive data will probably be stored and probably required a real time warehouse inventory system. Hmmm, really need to think hard as it is not easy when u hav big printing business like this. Haha...

Ok, basically even in my admin side, there is a routine every day. Sure there are alot of admin work to do, but if there's no one doing their part, do u really think u can get ur newspaper early in the day? Jus for ur info, i am in the circulation dept. It is indeed an interesting thing to know but u really needs dedication to get things done. Afterall, no work by my department means nothing being delivered to ur nearest shop. Though it may seems that i mayb doing repetitive work for 3 months, it is still an achievement considering that i have helped indirectly to despatch the printed stuffs smoothly to the whole of Singapore.

Ok, tml my 2nd day, looking forward to learn more...

Jus focus on wat u want to achieve and u shall get it right one day.

Reviving Blog Soon?

Maybe i am going to revitalise this blog soon.
Seems that something good always happen to me whenever i blog. All this while that i have not blog, something somewhere in my life happenings seem to go utterly wrong. All that is past now. Now that i going to work at SPH on July 1st for 3 months, things gonna change for the better i suppose...

So what's next? When's the next big outing or gathering? I wonder if a day gathering@ downtown east Ehub would be any fun? We shall see...

More random postings soon and mayb i shall blog about interesting or serious stuffs soon...

Life will be absolutely great if not for so many types of pressure out there...

Happenings!

Happenings galore!

Well, celebrated my 21st bday in rather low profile n simple but special way. Ate in Tung Lok Restaurant, n later go sing in partyworld orchard. If only a few more join me, hl, derrick n selvin, mayb the atmostphere will much better. Though i am contented with how it turns out that day. During lunch, received a addidas sports watch from ivy n friens n oso small hongbao as blessing. Really appreciate it n the more i wear the watch, i like it even more!
Thanks to my poly group of friends for the gift n effort for celebrating my bday.

Ok,then on christmas eve, some of us made it to V8 cafe in bugis for christmas celebration n gift exchange! Well, food taste quite nice n affordable. Next time, shall hav lunch there n taste other food choices on the menu.If i not wrong, some of us dine there quite few years ago to celebrate dora's bday. haha. Ok, back to the topic, i receive a rubber duckie calender n a rather cool imprinted christmas msg specially with my name on a dvd-r. Other gifts that other ppl received are quite special too though the number of ppl xchanging this year has decreased. But still, it is quite a surprise to hav xchange gifts annually for the 4th year running.

So, after the dinner at V8, some went off to other places with only 5 confirmed others going to derrick house to play mahjong. We met Dora at Eastpoint n buy some festive stuffs back to munch on while playing mahjong. Admittedly, i am quite terrible at mahjong. Having constantly throw out tiles that i should not throw, i still cannot figure out what went wrong n in fact racked up a shocking loss. But that somehow set my mind and i reflect on what should be corrected when i play mahjong next time. Have a rest later on n supposedly to play another round but some of us r tired n therefore to play again on another day. Home sweet home on christmas morning n wat a nice sleep till noon...

The next day, went to Malacca with half of my group of tampines fire station friends. We drove there in 5 cars, its really tiring for the drivers n all appreciate it. If going there by coach, i guess it will definitely took us more time. Have took some pictures at mahkota parade which is in malacca on the 1st day though n spent quite some time at mount ophir on 2nd day to admire the nice nature waterfall. Well, water are quite cold to the touch even when there's hot sun. Hav a dinner soon at Batu Pahat before i buy some snacks back to singapore. Well, Let the pictures do the talking. =)

1st Day
A Farmosa
Initially, going in but it is not worth tix price as not much attractions inside.

Exhibition ship
Big Ship Exhibit @ Malacca

Big Mac
Big Mac really big there... Milkshake not tat milky but got fine ice shaves...

Tiny Island
View from 18th floor of mahkota hotel. Room not tat big nor tat small...

Sunset @ Malacca
Sunset view not bad...

2nd Day
Trishaws
Trishaws pretty flowery along the way to mount ophir...

At waterfall
Me chilling with some station friends. Warm breezy weather, water still cold...brrr.

Ok, next up, having another mahjong session on new year eve. We bake some brownies n enjoyed some delicious pasta by mr derrick before the mahjong session begins. This time round, i managed to keep n throw tiles much tactically n with some self-gained skills n luck, managed to win some matches. For the first time ever, i have emerged one of the two winners of the mahjong which ends some 20 mins b4 the countdown to 2008! Hopefully i can proceed to win many more rounds soon as i gain a deeper understanding of the game. =) So when is it??? Haha...

Last but not least jimmy nah aka mc king has departed from this world which i believe most have heard it by now. Cause of death is initially believed to be lung or heart failure though coroner's report would take 2-3 weeks to understand how come a fit person can suddenly collapse n leave many close friends n relatives in a state of sadness. Oh well, may he continue upon another happier journey in another world. So pls cherish your friends more while you can. =)

Well, what a long post isn't it? Hopefully this year, i will hav lots more happier happenings. Me gonna rest now... Be back for more soon... =x a few more random pics for pleasure to start the new year!

Fruit Jam Dumplings
Fruit Jam Dumplings... Wonder if its nice cos not yet eat it yet.

Wedding door gifts
Wedding Door Gifts from Pan Pacific Singapore. Cute ya?

Keep going, Keep running, Keep striving!
